Between us we speak nine languages (German, English, Spanish, French, Portuguese, Japanese) and we are therefore able to support our international customers in dealing with their various challenges.
We have good links with experts in healthcare and professional bodies in both Germany and Europe, which enables us to deliver trendsetting results. Dr. Matthias Brachmann
Managing Director
Dr Matthias Brachmann has spent more than ten years working as a consultant for companies and hospitals.After studying International Economics in Tübingen, Kyoto and Ann Arbor, he completed his doctorate at the Reinhard Mohn Institute of Business Management at the University of Witten/Herdecke.As part of his research, he studied innovation factors for leading hospitals in Europe and Asia.At the end of 2013, he set up bcmed to provide strategic consultancy for healthcare professionals.Prior to this, he spent several years managing a well-known hospital consultancy in which he was a managing partner.
Dr Brachmann is a faculty member of the International Emergency Department Leadership Institute (Boston, USA) and a lecturer at the DGINA Leadership Academy. Since 2013, Dr Brachmann has also been a member of the Professional Committee of the European Society for Emergency Medicine.
In 2014, Dr Brachmann became the first non-medic to receive the David Williams Award.
Lukas IIlini
Managing Director (Paternity Leave)
Mr. Lukas IIlini holds a BSc in Social Economics and an MSc in Health Care Management. For more than ten years, Mr. Illini has held various positions in inpatient and outpatient healthcare. While he was a student, Mr IIlini worked in management, holding various positions in hospital management as part of a trainee programme. He subsequently focused his attention on the management of various hospitals, took on management responsibility, and after many years of practical experience, moved into consultancy for health service providers. In his consultancy work, he gained experience in the Chinese healthcare market and was involved in various national projects.
Mr. Illini is the co-founder and organiser of the “A + S Network Meeting” and is studying for a doctorate at the University of Greifswald. Mr. Illini is studying the efficient management of hospitals, taking account of multidimensional target systems.
Prof. Roger Jaeckel
Senior Consultant
Prof. Roger Jaeckel has been serving as a Senior Consultant at bcmed since April 2023. During his studies in Public Administration at the University of Konstanz, he early on engaged with the topics of hospital financing and hospital planning. As part of his diploma thesis, he conducted an empirical survey on geriatric facilities in hospitals. His professional journey began in the domain of statutory health insurance, focusing on hospitals and stationary preventive and rehabilitation facilities. After six years as the Head of the Replacement Funds Associations in Baden-Württemberg, he transitioned to the health industry. In various companies, he held the position of Director for Health Policy, Market, and Patient Access for an extended period.
In 2015, he was appointed as an honorary professor at the Faculty of Health Management by the Neu-Ulm University, primarily teaching subjects such as Health Policy, Health Economics, European Health Policy, and, starting from the autumn of 2023, the new field of digital health policy.
Prof. Jaeckel has an extensive publication record covering various focal points within healthcare and health services. Currently, his focus is on the politically decided hospital reform with diverse thematic priorities, anticipating an unprecedented transformation process in the hospital sector.
Katja Kikull
Senior Consultant
Katja Kikull contributes to the bcmed and its projects with a health economics master’s degree and over eight years of work experience. After graduating from Cologne and Maastricht (NL) University Mrs. Kikull worked in different management consultancies specialized to the healthcare sector – the main focus being project management, reorganization and process design as well as health economic analyses. Subsequently Mrs. Kikull gained valuable practical experience while working for a health care provider that offers inpatient as well as outpatient services.
At bcmed Mrs. Kikull works on national and international projects.

Andreas Merkle
Consultant
Andreas Merkle studied Business Administration in Healthcare (B.A.) and works at bcmed on projects related to business issues. As a trained healthcare and nursing professional, Mr. Merkle brings over 15 years of experience in various hospitals, spacially in the intensive care field.
Dr. med. habil. Bernhard Schwilk, MBA
Senior Consultant
Dr med. habil. Bernhard Schwilk, MBA, is an anaesthesiologist and economist. Dr Schwilk is a qualified medical doctor and has many years of experience working in various clinics.
After spending 16 years at University Hospital Ulm, Dr Schwilk moved into hospital management in 2003, becoming Head of Department for Clinical Organisation at the Charité.Dr Schwilk then moved as CEO to Märkische Gesundheitsholding and from there to the Sana Kliniken Remscheid where he was spokesperson for the Board of Management. Since 2014, Dr Schwilk has been working as a freelance hospital consultant and clinical anaesthesiologist.
Dr Schwilk has been almost solely focused on reorganisation and restructuring both in his management positions in hospitals and in his role as consultant.In his work, Dr. Schwilk has focused on the principles of balanced operations management (economy, clientele, innovation, employee interests) in terms of the balanced score card.

Maaike van der Meijs
Project Team Member
Ms. van der Meijs supports bcmed as a project team member, particularly in the areas of development and implementation of strategies in customer projects. She studies Information Management in Healthcare at the Technical University of Ulm and the University of Applied Sciences Neu-Ulm. As a trained medical assistant in orthopedics and trauma surgery, she brings practical experience to the healthcare field.
Bruna Lincon
Executive Assistant
Mrs. Lincon works at bcmed as an executive assistant and supports the project organisation. She is a certified specialist in healthcare and social services and brings professional experience in the healthcare sector as a trained physiotherapist.
